Western Red Cedar Shingles

Western Red Cedar is among the largest and finest of all the cedars grown anywhere in the world, with a heartwood that is famous for extraordinary resistance to decay.

Western Red Cedar wood is of exceptionally light weight, one of the lightest of all commercial species and possesses a soft texture and close, even, straight grain. It is very easily worked, can be finished to a smooth, silky surface with little effort, is free from pitch, takes and holds stain, paints and enamels excellently, and has superior gluing qualities.

The wood contains a natural preservative oil which renders its heartwood highly resistant to decay giving it extreme durability without artificial preservative treatment. Protective measures to preserve it are unnecessary since it does not deteriorate appreciably even under severe climatic conditions. When left in its natural state, it weathers to a beautiful, soft, driftwood gray.

Eastern White Cedar Shingles

Eastern White Cedar Shingles have many of the same qualities as the Red Cedar Shingles. They contain natural preservative oils, decay resistance and are free from pitch. White Cedar Shingles are made here, on the East Coast. Because they are lighter in color they give you an option for lighter stains or to do light color OVT solid oil stains.
